One of the problems in prisons, even the highest security prisons, is use of illegal drugs by the inmates. It seems that the prisoners are always able to figure out new and creative methods to smuggle contraband into the prison confines. This inability of prison personnel to halt the influx of contraband and drugs is a worldwide problem. Recently, Colombian authorities discovered an ingenuous method inmates were using to get their drugs into the prison. The Colombian guards near the prison in Bucaramanga, Columbia, spotted a pigeon with a package on its back. It turned out that the bird was transporting 1.6 ounces of marijuana and 0.2 ounces of crack cocaine. The bird was caught by the guards because its payload was too heavy for the bird to fly.
