A toddler is recovering tonight after surgery to remove part of a tumor on her back. The new tool used in the surgery was invented here in the valley, in the garage of an Ahwatukee doctor.
We’re used to surgeons using a scalpel, but this new tool replaces the scalpel in very delicate surgeries.
The doctor who invented it lives in Ahwatukee and used to work at Phoenix Children's Hospital. This surgery was the first time the new device has been used in Arizona.

The solar flare occurred at about 11 p.m. EST Sunday and will hit Earth with three different effects at three different times. The biggest issue is radiation, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center in Colorado.

Huppenthal issues order penalizing TUSD for ethnic studies - Home
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Late Friday morning Arizona education boss John Huppenthal issued his decision on the fate of the Mexican American Studies program at Tucson Unified School District. As expected, Huppenthal accepted an administrative judge's ruling. He slapped TUSD with a 10% funding cut, and made it retroactive to August of 2011.
Workplaces ban not only smoking, but smokers
More job-seekers are facing an added requirement: no smoking -- at work or anytime.
As bans on smoking sweep the USA, an increasing number of employers -- primarily hospitals -- are also imposing bans on smokers. They won't hire applicants whose urine tests positive for nicotine use, whether cigarettes, smokeless tobacco or even patches.
