A toddler is recovering tonight after surgery to remove part of a tumor on her back. The new tool used in the surgery was invented here in the valley, in the garage of an Ahwatukee doctor.
We’re used to surgeons using a scalpel, but this new tool replaces the scalpel in very delicate surgeries.
The doctor who invented it lives in Ahwatukee and used to work at Phoenix Children's Hospital. This surgery was the first time the new device has been used in Arizona.
